The FedEx driver just dropped off my new Lamson Litespeed F Fuego. It’s a winner.

The “F” designates the Litespeed’s freshwater version, available in 3-, 5- and 7-weight models. The LS F is anodized, so I don’t see any reason you can’t use it for light saltwater applications (OK, the 3- and 5-weight are pretty small for a saltwater reel). I would simply recommend washing it down after any salt exposure, but I always give that same advice with any salt-designed reel.
Cosmetically, I like the LS F. The most obvious change is the spool’s angled spokes, which gives a much more dynamic appearance than the previous design. And the color accents on the hub, spool handle and drag knob are a nice touch.
Of greater substance is the amount of metal Lamson has removed via cutouts in both the frame and spool, though the spool retains a bit of extra material opposite the handle to serve as a counterbalance. That takes the weight of the 5-weight down from 4.19 ounces to a mere 3.6 ounces, a drop of 14 percent. And yet, I don’t detect any loss in the reel’s integrity.
Despite the Litespeed’s reduced weight, the spool is larger than before, boosting the capacity from 100 yards of 20-pound backing with a 6-weight weight-forward taper to 125 yards. The larger diameter also translates into a faster rate of retrieve, always a good thing.
There is no change in the drag mechanism itself, but a click-stop drag knob has been added. I don’t know that it affects the reel’s actual performance, but those clicks give me a greater sense of control as I adjust the drag. Very nice.
The Litespeed F 5-weight in both Fuego and Whiskey colors is expected to be available later this month. The 3- and 7-weights should be available in March.
Retail is $499.99-$529.99.
Altogether, I like the new Litespeed F. Another great design from Lamson.

Today, I went to the beachfront with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell to her ear and screamed.
There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off topic
but I had to tell someone!
